Salash Motiani Featured in "AI in the Family Office"

Salash Motiani, co-director of Knoxed Capital, has been featured as the lead real-world example in "AI in the Family Office," an article by Hannah Arrighi published in July 2026. The piece explores how family offices — traditionally cautious, risk-averse adopters — can embrace artificial intelligence to stay competitive while protecting the proprietary data, relationships, and intellectual property that make them valuable.
Described as a "next-generation family office principal" who has thought deeply about how to implement AI safely, Salash sets out an approach built on compartmentalisation and constraint rather than blind adoption.
At the heart of his setup is a hybrid architecture that combines cloud and on-premise systems. He uses multiple large language models opportunistically — Claude, Cursor's Composer, and DeepSeek among them — switching between them as cost and capability dictate. Crucially, for live queries he passes metadata rather than raw data, and deliberately fragments information so that no single model can piece together the full picture. By design, each model is left, in his words, "very disabled." Where workloads exceed what the cloud can handle, he maintains on-premise infrastructure for the heavy computation behind AI agent stock and algorithmic trading.
His reasoning is grounded in a clear-eyed view of risk. Framing the central question as "Who do you trust with the family jewels?", Salash argues that perfect, fully controlled data isolation is a myth: "There is something I call the lies of a modern society, where we basically say that we want everything perfect, cheap, and fully controlled." The goal, instead, is strategic risk mitigation.
He captures the philosophy with a baking metaphor: "You can use Claude, you can use Composer, you can use a DeepSeek. They all basically pick up the ingredients you give them and start cooking. We've basically given AI the direction that we need to make a cake. We've given it the ingredients also. We've given it the saucepans also. So, we try to give it enough things, and we simply say, now that you have everything, can you put it into a mix and get on with it? When you give it that clarity, what's the worst it could do?"
The approach reflects the disciplined, forward-looking way Knoxed Capital thinks about technology — harnessing AI's capabilities to sharpen investment decisions while safeguarding the assets and judgement that define a family office.
